SS United States - Winter North Atlantic
by Robert G. Lloyd
$142 - $189
The SS United States pictured on Christmas Day, 1960, eastbound from New York to Southampton. The painting is based on a description from a navigating officer of an actual crossing from New York, who recalls, “Having passed the Ambrose Light outward from New York, we immediately starting pitching into heavy swells. There was deep depression north of Cape Cod with winds from the stern regularly reaching storm force 11. For four days the ship pitched heavily into huge waves sometime we guessed between 40 and 50 feet high. The storm stayed with us most of the crossing but we gradually left it behind and although it was sometimes uncomfortable, we arrived in Southampton only four hours late. We managed to maintain an average speed of over 26 knots the whole crossing.”
These limited-edition prints are available at two sizes, 24 x 20 inches (image area 20 x 14 inches) and a larger size of 20 × 30 inches (image area 27 x 17 inches).
Both sizes are produced on high quality, heavyweight, acid-free paper. Each print is hand-signed and numbered by the artist, and includes a signed and numbered certificate of provenance. A Race to the Finish
by Robert G. Lloyd
$137 - $187
The Conservancy is excited to share an extraordinary new painting by world-renowned marine artist Robert G. Lloyd entitled, “A Race to the Finish.” Prints of the painting, which features the SS United States and RMS Queen Mary returning side-by-side to New York, are available now in two sizes.
The painting depicts two of the most famous of the great transatlantic liners. In their heyday, these great ships represented the only way to cross from the United States to Europe, but by 1957 their time was drawing to a close. In 1953, the de Havilland Comet became the first commercial jet airliner to operate regular service across the Atlantic, marking the start of the era of air travel, and the death knell for age of the luxury transatlantic liner.
Limited edition prints are now available at two sizes, 24 x 20 inches (image area 20 x 14 inches) and a larger size of 20 × 30 inches (image area 27 x 17 inches). Both prints are produced on high quality, heavy weight, acid-free paper. Each print is hand signed and numbered by the artist, and includes a signed and numbered certificate of provenance.
Prints are dispatched via tracked airmail, and are $137.00 inclusive for the smaller size and $187.00 for the larger size. The total run is only 70 prints for the smaller size and 50 prints for the larger size, so be sure to place your order today! 25% of the proceeds from print sales will be donated to the SS United States Conservancy and directly support efforts to save the SS United States.

Luxury Liner Row, New York circa 1957
by Robert G. Lloyd
$125
The painting depicts the New York Passenger Ship Terminal between West 46th and West 54th streets, known to many as Luxury Liner Row. Artist Robert G. Lloyd notes: “These piers represented the epitome of transatlantic passenger travel, and nowhere else in the world would it have been possible to see such a meeting of the great liners.”
Shown in the artwork are Cunard's Media, Caronia, Mauretania and Queen Mary; the French Line’s Liberte, with engines started and her whistle blowing; and the Italian Line’s Leonardo da Vinci, maneuvering into the berth alongside the SS America. Behind the SS America are the huge funnels of America's Flagship, the SS United States. She towers above all else, surely a sight to behold and instantly recognizable. Finally, we see the Italian Line’s Saturnia approaching her berth, with the twin stacks of American Export Lines’ SS Independence just visible through the smoke and haze.
Limited-edition ‘Luxury Liner Row’ prints are available from the artist. Prints measure 24 x 20 inches and are produced on high quality, acid-free paper, with each print hand signed and numbered by the artist. Prints will be $125.00, which includes postage via airmail and a signed certificate of provenance. Tracked airmail is also available for an additional $10. Please allow 28 days for delivery.
25% of the proceeds from print sales will be donated to the SS United States Conservancy and directly support efforts to save the SS United States. The total print run is 70 editions only, so be sure to place your order today! To order please contact the artist directly at robert-lloyd@btconnect.com.
